Lord Vishnu's tenth and last incarnation is the Kalki Avatar. Kalki is believed to appear at the end of Kali Yuga, the current age. According to the Puranas, Kalki will ride a white horse named Devadatta and carry a shining sword. Kalki will emerge near the River Ganges in India.
Kalki is believed to be the one who destroys darkness and ignorance. As per the prophetic Kalki Purana, which describes the life and times of Kalki, there will come a time when the practices taught in the Vedas and the law books will come to an end. Lord Vishnu will descend to earth at the end of Kali Yuga. He will be born as Kalki into a well-known Brahmin family of Shambhala village.
Kalki will be blessed with eight divine faculties. With his great strength and power, he will destroy the demons, beasts, and all those with evil minds. He will re-establish justice on earth and awaken humankind to enlightenment and wisdom. Kalki's incarnation will end the current age, Kali Yuga, and begin the new Yuga. Once evil on earth has been put to an end, peace and calm will be restored in the new era, which will be as pious as Satya Yuga. Earth will be full of divine and holy beings, and there will be no wrongdoing. It will be a sacred space.
Yuga and Purpose of the Kalki Avatar
Kalki is the only avatar of the Dashavatara who has not yet appeared. The Puranas describe the Kali Yuga as an age in which truth, compassion and devotion steadily decline. According to the Bhagavata Purana and the Kalki Purana, when dharma has almost disappeared, Lord Vishnu will appear as Kalki to end the age of darkness and open the way for a new Satya Yuga. Tradition names his father as Vishnuyasha, a pious Brahmin of Shambhala.
Iconography and Symbolism

Lessons for the Present Age
The message of Kalki is one of hope: however dark the times become, goodness will return. The Puranas also teach that in the Kali Yuga, the simple practice of chanting the Lord's name and singing his praises (nama sankirtan) is especially powerful. Devotees therefore see the Kalki avatar as a call to live honestly and devotedly now, rather than waiting for the end of the age.
Kalki Jayanti, Temples and Thursday Worship
Kalki Jayanti is observed by many devotees on the sixth day of the bright half of Shravana, with prayers to Lord Vishnu for the protection of dharma. Temples dedicated to Kalki are rare. A well-known one is the eighteenth-century Kalki temple in Jaipur, where a statue of a white horse stands before the shrine. Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh is linked by many devotees with the Shambhala of the scriptures.
On Thursday, devotees who worship Lord Vishnu can close their puja by remembering all ten avatars, from Matsya to Kalki, and praying for the strength to follow dharma in daily life. Chanting "Om Namo Narayanaya" and reading the Brihaspativar vrat katha with a sincere heart are simple ways to do this.
भगवान विष्णु का दसवां और अंतिम अवतार कल्कि अवतार है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि वर्तमान युग 'कलियुग' के अंत में कल्कि अवतरित होंगे। पुराणों के अनुसार, कल्कि चमकती हुई तलवार लिए देवदत्त नामक सफेद घोड़े पर सवार होंगे। कल्कि भारत में गंगा नदी के पास प्रकट होंगे।
माना जाता है कि कल्कि अंधकार और अज्ञान का नाश करने वाले हैं। भविष्यसूचक ग्रंथ कल्कि पुराण के अनुसार, जिसमें कल्कि के जीवन और समय का वर्णन है, एक समय आएगा जब वेदों और धर्मशास्त्रों में सिखाई गई प्रथाएँ समाप्त हो जाएंगी। कलियुग के अंत में भगवान विष्णु पृथ्वी पर अवतरित होंगे। वह शम्भल गाँव के एक प्रसिद्ध ब्राह्मण परिवार में कल्कि के रूप में जन्म लेंगे।
कल्कि को आठ दिव्य शक्तियों का आशीर्वाद मिलेगा। अपनी शक्ति से वह राक्षसों, पशुओं और दुष्ट मन वाले सभी लोगों का नाश करेंगे। वह पृथ्वी पर न्याय की फिर से स्थापना करेंगे और मानव जाति में आत्मज्ञान और विवेक जागृत करेंगे। कल्कि के अवतार से वर्तमान युग, कलियुग, का अंत होगा और नया युग शुरू होगा। पृथ्वी पर बुराई को समाप्त करने के बाद नए युग में सुख और शांति बहाल होगी, जो सत्य युग के समान पवित्र होगा। पृथ्वी दैवीय और पवित्र प्राणियों से भरी होगी, और कोई गलत काम नहीं होगा। यह एक पवित्र स्थान होगा।
कल्कि अवतार का युग और उद्देश्य
दशावतार में कल्कि एकमात्र ऐसे अवतार हैं जो अभी प्रकट नहीं हुए हैं। पुराणों में कलियुग को ऐसा युग बताया गया है जिसमें सत्य, दया और भक्ति धीरे-धीरे घटती जाती है। भागवत पुराण और कल्कि पुराण के अनुसार जब धर्म लगभग लुप्त हो जाएगा, तब भगवान विष्णु कल्कि के रूप में प्रकट होकर अंधकार के इस युग का अंत करेंगे और नए सत्य युग का मार्ग खोलेंगे। परंपरा के अनुसार उनके पिता का नाम विष्णुयश होगा, जो शम्भल के एक धर्मपरायण ब्राह्मण होंगे।
स्वरूप और प्रतीक
- कल्कि को सफेद घोड़े पर सवार और हाथ में उठी हुई तलवार के साथ दिखाया जाता है। शास्त्रों में इस घोड़े का नाम देवदत्त बताया गया है।
- सफेद घोड़ा पवित्रता और तीव्रता का प्रतीक है, और तलवार अज्ञान तथा अधर्म को काटने की शक्ति का।
- उन्हें प्रायः राजसी वेश में एक युवा योद्धा के रूप में दिखाया जाता है, जो सज्जनों की रक्षा के लिए तत्पर है।
वर्तमान युग के लिए सीख
कल्कि अवतार का संदेश आशा का संदेश है: समय कितना भी अंधकारमय हो, अच्छाई फिर लौटेगी। पुराण यह भी बताते हैं कि कलियुग में भगवान के नाम का जाप और उनका गुणगान (नाम संकीर्तन) विशेष रूप से प्रभावशाली साधना है। इसलिए भक्त कल्कि अवतार को युग के अंत की प्रतीक्षा करने के बजाय अभी से ईमानदारी और भक्ति से जीने की प्रेरणा मानते हैं।
कल्कि जयंती, मंदिर और गुरुवार की पूजा
अनेक भक्त श्रावण शुक्ल षष्ठी को कल्कि जयंती मनाते हैं और धर्म की रक्षा के लिए भगवान विष्णु से प्रार्थना करते हैं। कल्कि को समर्पित मंदिर बहुत कम हैं। इनमें जयपुर का अठारहवीं शताब्दी का कल्कि मंदिर प्रसिद्ध है, जहाँ मंदिर के सामने एक सफेद घोड़े की प्रतिमा है। अनेक भक्त उत्तर प्रदेश के संभल को शास्त्रों में वर्णित शम्भल से जोड़ते हैं।
गुरुवार को भगवान विष्णु की पूजा करने वाले भक्त मत्स्य से कल्कि तक सभी दस अवतारों का स्मरण करके पूजा पूरी कर सकते हैं और दैनिक जीवन में धर्म का पालन करने की शक्ति माँग सकते हैं। "ॐ नमो नारायणाय" का जाप और सच्चे मन से बृहस्पतिवार व्रत कथा का पाठ इसके सरल उपाय हैं।
