Traditions and Customs
According to Hindu mythology, all the seven days of the week are devoted to a particular God from the Hindu shrine for various blessings like health, peace, love, wealth, success, fame, and prosperity. Hindu mythology is a vast realm of traditional folklores that deal with Hinduism in detail and is an integral feature of Sanskrit literature.
Thursday or Brihaspativaar is surrendered to Lord Vishnu and Brihaspati, the ultimate Guru of all Gods. This is the reason why Thursday is also called Guruvaar or Gurubaar. Apart from public puja rituals, the devotees follow other traditional customs on this day. The traditions are given below:
What to wear
The colour yellow is dedicated to Thursday. Therefore all the devotees wear yellow clothes and apply sandalwood paste ( yellow Chandan) on their forehead.
What to Offer
The Lord Brihaspati or Vishnu are offered yellow-coloured fruits and flowers on the day.
Fasting Customs
The devotees observe fast daily and can have food only once during the day. The meal consists of Bengal gram (chana dal), besan, and ghee. Any yellow-coloured vegetarian food can be eaten on the day. One cannot use salt to prepare any meals. Ghee, sweets, and sugar are prohibited.
Bhog and Prasad
The Bhog or Prasad offered to the Lord must have yellow delicacies like yellow sweets, chanagur, banana, etc. After the puja is performed, the Tulsi plant is watered. One can also add some Tulsi leaves in the Prasad before consuming.
Illuminating the Home
Ghee Diya symbolizes wealth, success, and prosperity. The devotees must light ghee diyas in the temple or their homes.
Worshipping Banana Tree
In some regions, the devotees plant a banana tree and worship and water it. The banana tree is a symbol of Lord Brihaspati and can be worshipped if there is no nearby temple or a figurine of the Lord Vishnu or Brihaspati.
Puja in Hanuman Temple
Brihaspati Puja is performed in the Hanuman temple in some areas. Lord Hanuman's origins are believed to be derived from Vishnu Purana; therefore, offering prayers to Lord Vishnu in the Hanuman temple is considered auspicious and pious.
Gain Wealth and Success
Many sagas and folktales are related to Brihaspati fast and puja. It is believed that devotees who observe the fast and perform puja on Brihaspativaar sincerely are blessed with wealth, success, and prosperity.
Offering Charity/Donations
There is a saga associated with Brihaspati puja. Brihaspati refuses to give charity to a poor man but later realizes his mistake, performs the puja, and offers alms to please Lord Vishnu. Therefore, following his belief, the devotees follow the ritual of not returning anyone empty-handed from their homes.
Helping the Poor and Needy
It is believed and is also mentioned in the Vrata Katha that Lord Vishnu appears in the guise of a sadhu to test his devotees on this particular day of the week. Therefore, helping the poor and needy is considered an essential ritual of the Brihaspati puja.
Brihaspati Vrat Katha Customs
No one should leave the place or speak until the Vrata Katha is completed. The person reading the Vrata Katha must cover their head with a yellow cloth and read the Katha aloud. Once the Katha is finished, the people listening and reading the Vrata Katha should eat the Prasad, wash their hands, and resume other activities.
Lord Brihaspati blesses the devotees who perform the Brihaspati Puja sincerely and with complete devotion. The expectations and desires of the devotees have been fulfilled.
__बृहस्पति पूजा की परंपरा और रिवाज
हिंदू पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार, सप्ताह के सभी सात दिन स्वास्थ्य, शांति, प्रेम, धन, सफलता, प्रसिद्धि और समृद्धि जैसे विभिन्न आशीर्वादों के लिए हिंदू धर्म से एक विशेष भगवान को समर्पित हैं। हिंदू पौराणिक कथाएं पारंपरिक लोककथाओं का एक विशाल हिस्सा है, जो हिंदू धर्म के साथ विस्तार से पेश आता है और संस्कृत साहित्य का एक अभिन्न अंग है।
गुरुवार या बृहस्पतिवार को भगवान विष्णु और सभी देवताओं के परम गुरु बृहस्पति का समर्पित किया जाता है। यही कारण है कि गुरुवार को बृहस्पतिवार भी कहा जाता है। इस दिन श्रद्धालुओं द्वारा सामान्य पूजा अनुष्ठानों के अलावा अन्य पारंपरिक रीति-रिवाजों का पालन किया जाता है। परंपराएँ नीचे दी गई हैं:
क्या पहनना चाहिए?
रंग पीला गुरुवार को समर्पित है। इसलिए सभी भक्त पीले कपड़े पहनते हैं और अपने माथे पर चंदन का लेप (पीला चंदन) लगाते हैं।
क्या चढ़ाएं?
भगवान बृहस्पति या विष्णु को पीले रंग के फल अर्पित किए जाते हैं।
उपवास रिवाज
श्रद्धालु दिन में उपवास रखते हैं और दिन में केवल एक बार भोजन कर सकते हैं। भोजन में बंगाल चना (चना दाल), बेसन और घी होता है। किसी भी दिन पीले रंग का शाकाहारी भोजन खाया जा सकता है। कोई भी भोजन तैयार करने के लिए नमक का उपयोग नहीं किया जा सकता है। व्रत में घी, मिठाइयाँ और चीनी वर्जित होते हैं।
भोग और प्रसाद
भगवान को अर्पित किए गए भोग या प्रसाद में पीले रंग की मिठाइयां, चना-गुड़, केला, इत्यादि होने चाहिए। पूजा करने के बाद तुलसी के पौधे को पानी दिया जाता है। भस्म से पहले प्रसाद में तुलसी के कुछ पत्ते भी मिला सकते हैं।
घर को रोशन करना
घी-दीया धन, सफलता और समृद्धि का प्रतीक है। भक्तों को मंदिर या अपने घरों में घी के दीये जलाने चाहिए।
केले के पेड़ की पूजा करते हुए
कुछ क्षेत्रों में, भक्त एक केले का पेड़ लगाते हैं और पूजा करते हैं और इसे पानी देते हैं। केले का पेड़ भगवान ब्रहस्पति का प्रतीक है लेकिन इसकी पूजा तब की जा सकती है, जब पास में कोई मंदिर या भगवान विष्णु या बृहस्पति की मूर्ति उपलब्ध न हो।
हनुमान मंदिर में पूजा करें
कुछ क्षेत्रों में, हनुमान मंदिर में बृहस्पति पूजा की जाती है। भगवान हनुमान की उत्पत्ति विष्णु पुराण से मानी जाती है, इसलिए हनुमान मंदिर में भगवान विष्णु की पूजा करना शुभ और पवित्र माना जाता है।
धन और सफलता प्राप्त करें
बृहस्पति व्रत और पूजा से संबंधित कई साग और लोककथाएँ हैं। ऐसा माना जाता है कि जो भक्त बृहस्पतिवार को व्रत का पालन करते हैं और पूजा करते हैं, उन्हें ईमानदारी से धन, सफलता और समृद्धि प्राप्त होती है।
दान देना
बृहस्पति पूजा से जुड़ी एक गाथा है। बृहस्पति नाम का एक व्यक्ति एक गरीब व्यक्ति को दान देने से इनकार करता है, लेकिन बाद में अपनी गलती का एहसास करता है और पूजा करता है और भगवान विष्णु को प्रसन्न करने के लिए भिक्षा प्रदान करता है। इसलिए, उनके विश्वास का पालन करते हुए, भक्त अपने घर से किसी को भी खाली हाथ नहीं लौटाने की रस्म का पालन करते हैं।
गरीब और जरूरतमंदों की मदद करना चाहिए
ऐसा माना जाता है और व्रत कथा में यह भी उल्लेख किया गया है कि भगवान विष्णु साधु की आड़ में अपने भक्तों का सप्ताह के इस विशेष दिन पर परीक्षण करते हैं। इसलिए, गरीबों और जरूरतमंदों की मदद करना बृहस्पति पूजा का एक आवश्यक अनुष्ठान माना जाता है।
बृहस्पति व्रत कथा रीति रिवाज
जब तक व्रत कथा पूरी न हो जाए, किसी को भी जगह नहीं छोड़नी चाहिए या बोलना नहीं चाहिए। व्रत कथा पढ़ने वाले व्यक्ति को अपने सिर को पीले कपड़े से ढंकना चाहिए और कथा को जोर से पढ़ना चाहिए। एक बार जब कथा समाप्त हो जाती है, तो व्रत कथा सुनने और पढ़ने वाले लोगों को प्रसाद खाना चाहिए, हाथ धोना चाहिए और अन्य गतिविधियों को शुरू करना चाहिए।
पूरी ईमानदारी और पूरी श्रद्धा के साथ बृहस्पति पूजा करने वाले भक्तों को भगवान बृहस्पति आशीर्वाद देते हैं। इसके अलावा, भक्तों की अपेक्षाएं और इच्छाएं भी पूरी होती हैं।
