Brihaspati's position in the horoscope can break or make one's life. Planet Jupiter or Brihaspati represents prosperity, wisdom, knowledge, lineage, wealth, respect, fame, and justice. The saga that marks the history of Brihaspati puja or Guru Puja is given below:
In early India, there lived a king who was blessed with seven sons and wives. However, the queen returned two Brahmins empty-handed who used to come in their kingdom begging for charity. Therefore, the God Jupiter (the most mighty of all planets in the solar system) got infuriated. This adversely affected the wealth and prosperity of the kingdom. The youngest queen started giving charity to the Brahmins, but the elderly queens refused to donate. As a result, their empire was devastated, and the king suffered poverty.
The youngest queen asked for a remedy from the Brahmins to restore wealth and overcome the crisis. The two Brahmins advised the queen to observe fast for Lord Brihaspati every Thursday, Brihaspativaar, and feed the Brahmins. From there on, the ritual of performing Brihaspati puja in the Hindu culture came into being.
Generally, Hindu Indian women make two human idols behind their house's main door if their husband goes to a foreign country. The custom leads to the safe and early return of the husband. However, if someone in the family faces poverty, the human figurines are made on the box.

कुंडली में बृहस्पति की स्थिति या तो किसी के जीवन को तोड़ सकती है या बना सकती है। ग्रह बृहस्पति समृद्धि, ज्ञान, वंश, धन, सम्मान, प्रसिद्धि और न्याय का प्रतिनिधित्व करते हैं। बृहस्पति पूजा या गुरु पूजा के इतिहास की गाथा नीचे दी गई है।
प्रारंभिक भारत में, एक राजा रहता था जो सात पुत्रों और पत्नियों के साथ धन्य था। एक बार राजा की अनुपस्थति में रानी दो भिक्षु ब्राह्मणों को खाली हाथ लौटा देती है। इससे, भगवान बृहस्पति (सौर मंडल में सभी ग्रहों के सबसे शक्तिशाली) का निरादर हो जाता है जिसके बाद, राज्य के धन और समृद्धि पर प्रतिकूल प्रभाव पड़ा। इसके बाद, सबसे छोटी रानी ने ब्राह्मणों को दान देना शुरू कर दिया, लेकिन बड़ी रानियों ने ब्राह्मणों को कोई दान देने से इनकार कर दिया जिससे उनका साम्राज्य तबाह हो गया और राजा को गरीबी का सामना करना पड़ा।
सबसे कम उम्र की रानी ने धन को बहाल करने और संकट को दूर करने के लिए ब्राह्मणों से एक उपाय पूछा। दोनों ब्राह्मणों ने रानी को सलाह दी कि वे बृहस्पतिवार को भगवान बृहस्पति के लिए उपवास रखें और बृहस्पतिवार के दिन ब्राह्मणों को भोजन कराएं। ऐसा करने से, रानी के सभी तकलीफें दूर हो गयी और तभी से हिंदू संस्कृति में बृहस्पति पूजा होने लगी।
आमतौर पर, यदि किसी महिला का पति विदेश में गया हो तो वो अपने घर के मुख्य दरवाजे के पीछे दो मानव मूर्तियाँ बनाती हैं। यह रिवाज पति की सुरक्षा और जल्दी वापसी से सम्बंधित है। यदि परिवार में किसी को गरीबी का सामना करना पड़ रहा है, तो मानव मूर्तियों को बॉक्स पर बनाया जाता है।
