Vamana Avatar
The fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu is Vamana, the dwarf. It is the first incarnation of Treta Yuga. According to the Bhagawad Purana, Lord Vishnu came into this avatar to get Lord Indra his powers and kingdom of heaven back from King Bali. The legend of Lord Indra and King Bali is narrated below.
King Bali took over the gods through great religious practice and austerity. He pushed out Lord Indra from the kingdom of heaven. Lord Indra went to Lord Vishnu and requested him to help defeat King Bali and take back his place with Gods in heaven. Lord Vishnu accepted his appeal and took birth as a dwarf Brahmin. In the form of Vamana, the Brahmin, Lord Vishnu, went to King Bali's sacrifice ceremony. The king deeply respected the Brahmin and invited him to receive anything. King Bali's guru recognized the Brahmin's true self as Lord Vishnu. He alerted the king about the same but all in vain.
The Brahmin, Vamana, appealed to King Bali to grant him as much land as his feet could cover in three steps. The king agreed as he promised. But he was shocked when Vamana took his first two steps; he covered the earth, middle world, and the heavens, returning to Lord Indra. Bali offered his head to Vamana to fulfil his promise for his final step. Vamana enlightened Bali that pride and wealth are temporary and fleeting, quickly disappearing. Some people believe that King Bali returns every year on earth. The Onam festival is celebrated to welcome and honour King Bali to his lost kingdom.
__वामन अवतार
भगवान विष्णु का पांचवा अवतार वामन है, जो एक बौने ब्राह्मण के रूप में प्रचलित है। यह त्रेता युग का पहला अवतार है। भागवत पुराण के अनुसार, भगवान विष्णु राजा बलि से भगवान इंद्र की शक्तियां और स्वर्ग का राज्य वापस लेने के लिए इस अवतार में आए। भगवान इंद्र और राजा बलि की कथा नीचे वर्णित है।
राजा बलि ने महान धार्मिक अभ्यास और तपस्या के माध्यम से देवताओं को प्रसन्न किया। उसने स्वर्ग के राज्य से भगवान इंद्र को बाहर निकाल दिया। भगवान इंद्र भगवान विष्णु के पास गए और उनसे अनुरोध किया कि वे राजा बलि को हराने और स्वर्ग में देवताओं के साथ अपना स्थान वापस लेने में उनकी मदद करें। भगवान विष्णु ने उनकी अनुरोध को स्वीकार कर ली और एक बौने ब्राह्मण के रूप में जन्म लिया। भगवान विष्णु, वामन के रूप में, ब्राह्मण राजा बलि के बलिदान समारोह में गए। राजा ने ब्राह्मण का गहरा सम्मान किया और उनसे कुछ भी प्राप्त करने के लिए आमंत्रित किया।
